Step out of the shadows: Historical Ukraine Research Today. (English)

The article deals with historical research on Ukraine and its role in Eastern European and European history. Ukraine has been little studied in German historiography and has been neglected compared to Russian history and regional studies. The limited research activities on Ukraine after World War I and during the Nazi era are mentioned. Since the 1990s, the situation has improved, but there are still challenges such as the lack of research on medieval and early modern Ukrainian history. The article emphasizes the importance of historical research on Ukraine and the need to further expand expertise in this field by broadening the perspective on Ukraine and examining its relations with Russia and Europe. Der Artikel beschäftigt sich mit der historischen Forschung zur Ukraine und ihrer Rolle in der osteuropäischen und europäischen Geschichte. Die Ukraine wurde bisher in der deutschen Geschichtswissenschaft wenig beachtet und im Vergleich zur russischen Geschichte und Landeskunde vernachlässigt. Es wird auf die begrenzten Forschungsaktivitäten zur Ukraine nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg und während der nationalsozialistischen Zeit hingewiesen. Seit den 1990er Jahren hat sich die Situation verbessert, aber es gibt immer noch Herausforderungen wie den Mangel an Forschung zur mittelalterlichen und frühneuzeitlichen Geschichte der Ukraine.
