The article explores the relationship between sugar and health and the role of sugar in nutrition. It distinguishes natural sugars like fructose, glucose and sucrose found in fruits, vegetables and milk products from refined sugar found in food sources like soft drinks, fruit-flavored drinks and flavored yogurts. It identifies health problems associated with diet high in refined sugar such as obesity, diabetes, unhealthy blood triglyceride levels, cardiovascular disease and autoimmune disease.
