One year after the Taliban's takeover in Afghanistan, they have disappointed hopes for more tolerance and freedoms. They have restricted or abolished civil liberties, human rights, and especially women's rights. The humanitarian situation and the economic crisis have led to a deterioration of the human rights situation. However, the Taliban occasionally demonstrate constructive governance, such as in the fight against Covid-19. The question is how long the Taliban can suppress all these conflicts with violence. Fast ein Jahr nach ihrer Machtübernahme in Afghanistan am 15. August 2021 sitzt das Regime der Taleban fest im Sattel. Allerdings herrschen die Taleban mehr als dass sie regieren. Damit haben sie Hoffnungen – manche sagen: Illusionen – enttäuscht, dass sie nach ihrer Machtübernahme der Bevölkerung mit mehr Toleranz begegnen und zumindest bestimmte Freiheiten akzeptieren würden, die sich in den letzten 20 Jahren in Afghanistan entwickelt hatten, nicht zuletzt dank besserer Bildungschancen zumindest für einige Sektoren der Gesellschaft.
