- Abstract: The article presents a case study of a 78-year-old woman with urinary tract infections (UTIs) who was brought to the emergency department (ED) because she had had been experiencing a change in mental status (confusion) for few days. It notes she had a past medical history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and osteopenia. The article discusses challenges in treating UTIs in older patients and references The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA)'s 2019 Clinical Practice Guideline.
