Globalisation is contributing to the loss of cultural identity in Central America. This paper examines the current situation of indigenous peoples and Afro-descendants since independence, their role in the integration process, and the main initiatives aimed at rescuing the region's cultural identity. It also offers a reflection on how the state can assist in its preservation through the work of its institutions, through international cooperation and the participation of the groups in question. La globalización abona a que la pérdida de la identidad cultural gane terreno en Centroamérica. Por ello, en el presente escrito se evidencia la situación actual de los pueblos originarios y afrodescendientes a partir de la independencia; su papel en el proceso de integración y las principales iniciativas que pretenden rescatar la identidad cultural de la zona. Además, se ofrece una reflexión acerca de las maneras de conservarla a través del trabajo del Estado por medio de sus diferentes instituciones, la cooperación internacional y la participación de los grupos en cuestión.
