    • Abstract:
Manuel Quiroga was a key figure in the history of Galician music. As an interpreter, he achieved the greatest achievements, and as a ‘Renaissance man’ he cultivated the art of composition and painting. In a context linked to musical nationalism, and due to his relationship with the Galician intellectual scene, Manuel Quiroga wrote some works devoted to Galicia. Despite being few, they are very interesting due to their inclusion of traditional themes, as well as works by authors of the musical variant of the Galician literary Renaissance (Rexurdimento). Two of his most iconic compositions are analyzed here, raising Quiroga's affinity for the music of the Rexurdimento and especially for Juan Montes, his relationship with Galician folklore, his, possible sources of inspiration and the treatment of that music in a classical and virtuosic genre.
