    • Abstract:
PHOTO (BLACK & WHITE): In Steerage (1907), Stieglitz was fascinated by a "picture of shapes" of passengers on a ship. By exhibiting photographs alongside new works in painting and sculpture, Stieglitz won new respect for photography. In 1905, with money from Stieglitz's father and other Photo-Secession members, Stieglitz and Steichen opened an art gallery at 291 Fifth Avenue. [Extracted from the article]
