    • Abstract:
The article discusses the research in "Nature," which shows how featherwing beetles wield lightweight wings to keep pace with species three times their size. They sport featherlike wings with light porous appendages and produce less friction than flies' typical membrane-based wings, helping the beetle generate lift. Multiple insect lineages have evolved similar wings as they downsized, but these beetles use a previously unknown strategy to develop their outsized flight prowess.
