    • Abstract:
Bio-Based/Biomass Feedstocks Using renewable biomass as feedstock for chemical manufacturing in a closed carbon cycle could significantly reduce the industry's carbon emissions. Some multinational chemical companies have made commitments to clean power purchase agreements that move them toward carbon neutrality; however, these efforts alone will be insufficient, as the carbon footprint of organic chemicals is made up of both process emissions and embedded carbon from the industry's petrochemical products, which is released at end-of-life (e.g., incineration or decomposition) (Figure 2). The Molecular Redesign Strategy I The industry should develop innovative new platform and tunable chemistries based on the principles of green chemistry and engineering i .
