Structural Causal Relationships of Family Relationship and Empathy on Prosocial Behavior through Prosocial Attitude as a Mediator in Undergraduate Students. (English)
- Abstract:
This research aimed to study the structural causal relationship of family relationship and empathy on prosocial behavior through prosocial attitude as a mediator. The sample consisted of 345 undergraduate students in Chiang Mai University who were selected using the purposive sampling method. The data collection instruments included family relationship questionnaire, empathy questionnaire, prosocial attitude questionnaire, and prosocial behavior questionnaire. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling. The findings showed that the modified model appeared to fit the empirical data well (χ2 = 1.273, df = 1, χ2/df = 1.273, p-value = .259, GFI = .998, CFI = .999, NFI = .997, RMSEA = .028). Family relationship and empathy showed an indirect positive effect on prosocial behavior through prosocial attitude, with the influence coefficients at .271 and .250 respectively. Moreover, prosocial attitude had a direct positive effect on prosocial behavior, with the influence coefficients at .500. In addition, it was found that family relationship had a direct positive effect on empathy, with the influence coefficient at .487. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
