The 2014 Oil Shock and Its Effects on the Trade policy in Algeria. (English)
    • Abstract:
The Algerian economy is facing a large and persistent external shock caused by the collapse of hydrocarbon prices since June 2014. The persistence and aggravation of the shock marked a turning point in the evolution of all macroeconomic aggregates, due to the slowdown in economic activity, and the widening of fiscal and the external current account deficits. In this regard, the ambition of this article is to show the impact of the oil shock on the performance of external accounts, as well as the trade policy measures that were introduced to mitigate the impact of this shock, with an assessment to its effectiveness. However, the study concludes that the main objective of trade policy should be to encourage exports rather than impose import barriers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
    • Abstract:
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
