- Abstract:
The Ridge, as the Cuillin is often termed by mountaineers, is a 12-kilometre crest of rocky peaks that is held to be the ultimate British mountain ridge. Stumbling up steep, sharp rock after steep, sharp rock; lungs gasping, heart pounding, legs burning; cursing Andy, cursing my rucksack, cursing the Cuillin - why was everything on this goddamn Ridge so goddamn hard? I heard a cry on the mountains, the liberty-shout of the people rising. Ask a poet or a scholar about an epic and they might cite Homer, Virgil, Dante or Milton. [Extracted from the article]
