      The author reflects on the characteristics of human ignorance in light of an article on humility as a scientific and political virtue. He points out the unpopularity of humility as a virtue in science and politics. He attributes the human limitation of knowledge and ability to control disasters to choices about allocating the limited resources of time, money, and attention. He cites the role of people involved in seeking knowledge and making public policy in the characteristics of ignorance.
