After all, except in patients managed for treatment of hyponatremia, the sodium increase in normonatremic patients would lead in the direction of hypernatremia. Darmon et al ([5]) in another large database with 11,125 patients found that both moderate and severe hyponatremia and mild, moderate, and severe hypernatremia were independently associated with day-30 mortality.
