- Abstract:
Steiner stresses the importance of the therapist understanding the desire for illusion while helping our patients to face the suffering that accompanies disillusion. I was very happy to be given the opportunity to review this latest book by John Steiner, since I have found his previous books and papers very helpful in thinking about work with patients. Steiner is writing from his position as a psychoanalyst but I think these ideas, which are expressed very clearly, have a relevance for anyone working therapeutically in the psychoanalytic tradition.
