The article recalls historical events which transpired during the month of October. Edith Lanchester, who opposed the institution of marriage and lived with factory worker James Sullivan, was forcefully committed by her family with the help of mental health expert Fielding Blandford to the Priory of Roehampton in England on October 25, 1895. More than 60,000 people were killed due to the Calcutta cyclone in India on October 5, 1864. Chiang Kai-shek became the Chinese leader on October 10, 1928.
