COMBINED THERAPEUTIC APPROACH IN PATIENTS WITH ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION AND DYSLIPIDEMIA. (English)
    • Abstract:
Arterial hypertension (HTN) and dyslipidemias are leading causes of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications worldwide. They are often found in the same patients: every second patient with HTN has also dyslipidemia. The therapeutic approach is complex - pharmacological and non-pharmacological. Currently, there is a tendency toward increased use of single-pill combinations containing one or two antihypertensive drugs plus a statin. The calcium-channel blocker amlodipine and the statin atorvastatin are among the most commonly used components in these combinations. The similar pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, and the proven benefits in terms of reducing cardiovascular risk, make the single-pill combination of amlodipine and atorvastatin possible and even rational. According to clinical investigations, this combination is not only highly effective in lowering blood pressure and LDL-cholesterol, but also has a significant cardioprotective effect: increases the release of NO from the vascular endothelium, improves vascular distensibility, reduces insulin resistance and the level inflammation biomarkers, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
