- Abstract:
The article highlights the results of a nautical community archaeology project on the possibility that Cahuita Bay in Costa Rica was the site of the Danish slave shipwrecks in the 18th century. Topics discussed include the decision of crews who mutinied when the Danish slave ships veered off the slave trading route course to leave the African captives in Costa Rica, discovery of Danish bricks on the ocean floor of the bay, and the move by the Indigenous Bribri people to welcome the survivors.
