      This article reports on the opening of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield, Illinois. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, Springfield, IL, opened to the public on October 14 as part of a larger $150 million complex that includes the Lincoln presidential museum, visitor's center, park, and parking garage, to be opened next spring. The library is also the new home of the Illinois State Historical Library and its 12 million items, including more than 45,000 Lincoln-related artifacts. Library director Richard Norton Smith has headed four other presidential libraries. The library features a reading room complete with data hookups for laptops, classrooms, a lecture hall, and microfilm readers. More than six linear miles of shelves are available for storage.
