      The year is 2021, and companies are still lagging when it comes to promoting women. Board and executive positions tend to go to people who have connections and sponsors - or to those who are already CEOs or high-profile executives, says Emilia DiMenco, the president and CEO of the Women's Business Development Center in Chicago. There is a small percentage of women and minorities in high-profile positions, so those same individuals are considered for board and executive positions, and the pool is not made larger.
