    • Abstract:
To curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus, schools and educational institutions had to close down and drastically change the norms of education from face-to-face learning to online learning. In order to ensure that students are not left behind in learning, teachers in Malaysia work hard to ensure the online teaching runs smoothly. However, their efforts do not seem to be worth when students do not show support for virtual classes held by teachers, especially in synchronous learning. Even though both students and teachers do not meet in reality, the negative attitude displayed by the students is indirectly associated with the neglect of manners towards the teacher. This study aims to provide a guide to students regarding manners towards teachers through an exploration of the book entitled Tadhkirat as-Sami 'wal Mutakallim fi Adab al-'Alim wa al-Muta'alim by Ibn Jama'ah (d. 733 H). The content analysis methodology has been conducted on the book to obtain a guide on student manners that are relevant to be applied in the context of synchronous online learning. The results of the study have found eight themes of manners including the terms of maintaining personal appearance, punctuality, paying attention to teachers, giving appropriate responses, not ashamed to ask, not doing other things while the teacher is teaching, not underestimate the teacher's teaching, expressing gratitude and reciting prayers for teachers. This study is expected to provide enlightenment for students to maintain a civilized culture towards teachers regardless of any learning situation. The implications of this study are not focused on school students alone, in fact it can be utilized by all people involved with online learning despite the difference of the fields of study.
