This article focuses on the replacement of the column Book Notes with Briefly Noted in announcing Professional Reading titles of interest that were not reviewed in the magazine Library Journal, as of April 1989. The new and improved Briefly Noted will supplement the book review by listing significant releases not covered by full-length reviews. Briefly Noted books will appear at the end of Professional Reading in this issue and in the Book Review with the May 1, 1989 issue. Michael Rogers will serve as the editor for Briefly Noted. Two recent publications from the California State Library Foundation are A State of Change: California's Ethnic Future and Libraries, edited by Nora Jacob, and California Conferences on Networking, which is the proceedings of the regional conference held from September 22 to 27, 1988. The volume contains all speeches and small group discussions. Organized by Ida Vincent and edited by Boyd Rayward, both of the University of New South Wales, Australian Library History in Context contends that the history of libraries and the history of books in Australia should not be equated with developments in Europe and North America.
