- Abstract:
This article focuses on author's experience in serving in Mali. No matter how grand or humble the home, whether it was made of marble or mud, she was invited to share meals and laughter with her Malian hosts. When she first arrived in Mali, the people seemed very exotic, sporting turbans and brightly colored Caftans and giant gold earrings, with indigo tattoos on their gums. Americans are often surprised when they land in a Africa and discover the marvelous diversity that the continent's 50-plus nations offer. She learned to be in awe of Malian women from the rural areas of the country.
