The problem of the established sacred languages in the era of the missionary work of St. Cyril and St. Methodius. (English)
    • Abstract:
Christianization is closely connected to language itself. However, it has always also to be examined to which extent Christianization and the rise of a language had a political impact and to which extent they were influenced by politics. In consequence, the focus of any scientific analysis has to be broadened on a matrix of complex and dynamic processes within societies. The priority of current scientific research must therefore be laid on the exploration of new perspectives on language families. This all may materialize into a discussion about the depth, intensity, and variety of the given issue, its perception by its protagonists, and its integration into a broader context of the political power-play and the ideological changes within a society. Prerequisites for the acknowledgement of a sacred language for the Slavs were the creation of an own alphabet and the recognition of the language through the Pope. Simultaneously, these two facts were triggers for the development of literature. All this and the nearly dogmatic change to use no longer only three languages paved the way to a Slavonic civilization, which however soon began to feel the strong influence of the Latinization.
