- Abstract:
The author examines the foreign policies of the United States State Department in the 1920s. The administration has repeatedly stated that the U.S. would not join the League of Nations. The Department of State agrees with public opinion that the U.S. would gain nothing by joining the League, but that on the contrary, membership would involve the American government in European political questions in a manner contrary to the American tradition and interests. In many League conference in disarmament, however, the U.S. has played a helpful part. There are a few critics of the consistent American policy of non-recognition of the Soviet communist government. The author also analyzes American relations with Mexico, Latin America and China.
