      Experience in the collaboration of the Center of State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance in the Karachai-Chercassian Republic with mass media at the period of the emergency situation in summer 2002 and in the use of the possibilities given by television, radio and the press, depending on their technical potential and audience, is presented. The necessity of raising the status of the sanitary and epidemiological service in modern society is pointed out, which should be achieved by elucidating the activity of this service to a wide public and explaining the importance of prophylactic medicine.
