Symptomatic treatment of multiple sclerosis. (English)

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, is characterized by the appearance of an inflammatory and demyelinating process, which causes alterations of brain functions that give rise to a wide range of signs and symptoms. The objective of this review is to offer a conceptualization of current treatments to treat some of the main symptoms caused by multiple sclerosis. A bibliographical review of articles in the PubMed, Cochrane, Science Direct, Scielo and non indexed scientific literature of Google Scholar databases was carried out. At present there is no curative treatment for the disease, but there are some drugs and therapeutic actions that allow delaying the onset of symptoms most common as fatigue, spasticity, pain and bladder dysfunction, as well as a decrease in them. La Esclerosis Múltiple es una enfermedad autoinmune del sistema nervioso central (SNC) que se caracteriza por la aparición de un proceso inflamatorio y desmielinizante, que ocasiona alteraciones de las funciones cerebrales dando origen a un gran abanico de signos y síntomas. El objetivo de la presente revisión es ofrecer una conceptualización de los tratamientos actuales para algunos de los síntomas más comunes de la esclerosis múltiple. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica utilizando las bases de datos Pubmed, Cochrane, Science direct, Scielo y complementada con la literatura científica no indexada de Google académico. Los resultados de las diferentes investigaciones destacan que, en la actualidad no se cuenta con un tratamiento curativo para la enfermedad, pero si existen ciertos fármacos y acciones terapéuticas que permiten tanto, retardar el inicio de algunos síntomas más comunes como la fatiga, la espasticidad, el dolor y la disfunción vesical, así como una disminución de los mismos.
