    • Abstract:
This article presents information on a writer and asks readers to identify him. The writer writes about ordinary things, average families, kids, baseball. His stories often revolve around typical small-town life, it's just that in his world, ordinary things aren't always what they seem. Cars are evil, dogs go mad, and nice people can be monsters. His stories are a real horror. In 1999, a man driving a van hit the author while he was walking along a road in Maine, and he nearly died. Last year, the National Book Foundation presented him with its 2003 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
