This article presents information on funding of medical research in the United States. Financing research has become increasingly a public function. Out of the nation's $15 billion bill for health last year, federal, state and local tax money paid one third. This proportion of tax funds has more than doubled in the past 25 years. Government has gradually shouldered tasks which the progress of medicine has invited and which the people in the United States have demanded. Marching grants up to $50 million a year for five years are proposed to aid in the construction of research and teaching facilities connected with schools of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry and public health.
