    • Abstract:
The overseas boxoffice is holding up remarkably well as new films enter the market by degrees, usually starting out in pirate-prone Southeast Asia and gradually moving around the world, all dependent on competitive factors, the season and local school holidays. The rotating-door pattern for the past three weekends in Great Britain held, with "The Village" taking over first place, replacing "The Bourne Supremacy," which in turn succeeded "I, Robot." The Walt Disney Co.'s major domestic disappointment, "King Arthur," is regaining stature overseas, leading the offshore weekend with $12.3 million from 3,867 screens in 32 countries, raising its cume to $91.7 million. It was a rewarding weekend for Buena Vista International, Disney's overseas distribution arm, as its second late-summer entry, M. Night Shyamalan's" The Village," aroused attention in key European dates after starting out in smaller offshore markets.
