    • Abstract:
Until fairly recently, the only industrial activity in Saudi Arabia was performed by craftsmen using age-old skills and techniques to fashion a limited range of products for sale in local bazaars. But as the flow of oil revenue gathered momentum in the 1960s, leading to the development of a national transportation system, a small but increasingly important modern industrial sector emerged. As of 1985, the kingdom's industrial capacity ranges from major iron and steel, power and desalination, fertilizer, chemical and cement plants to a host of smaller manufacturing facilities. This article will discuss how the growth of industrial production has been particularly rapid in the last few years.
