      IT HAS BEEN well established that youthinvolved in the juvenile justice system haveextensive trauma histories as well as unmetphysical and behavioral health issues. During the 2018-2019 academic schoolyear, HCIS received funding from theCalifornia Department of Education toimprove the health and wellness of studentsattending the participating high school inCompton through a universal physical andbehavioral health screening program. Lessons Learned While the HCIS universal screening programwas successful in identifying students withunaddressed physical and behavioral healthneeds, HCIS staff experienced a number ofchallenges throughout the program.
