In OBP, the probation officeralso brought in the caregiver feedback aboutprimary areas of concern and a discussion ofthe youth's strengths and interests to developgoals (Structured Goal Setting) in three areas:probation goals, responsibility goals, and lifegoals. Theprobation officers ranged widely in experience,with a minimum of four years of experiencein juvenile probation. Findings Content analysis of the probation focus groupwas oriented towards developing constructivefeedback that could improve the OBP modeland facilitate better program experiences forprobation officers and OBP families. Of five probation officersinvolved in the pilot, one ended up droppingout due to struggles with reconciling theperceived obligations of probation supervision(e.g., violating youth for noncompliantbehaviors) and incorporating a youth developmentapproach.
