LIVES QUITE (EXTRA)ORDINARY: THE RECONCEPTUALIZATION OF MARTYRDOM IN CONTEMPORARY CROATIAN PROSE. (English)
    • Abstract:
This paper deals with reconceptualization of martyrdom in Martyrs (2013), a short story collection by Želimir Periš. Close reading demonstrates linkage between these texts and some hagiographic features, such as celibacy, asceticism, and visions. Special attention is given to the aspect of exemplarity, which appears to be emphasized as the result of diverse repetitions. Furthermore, the implications of the cyclic composition of this collection are examined. In conclusion, the analysis of the role of the story and the role of the storytelling indicates choice itself to be the shared motivation of these texts and the essence of the martyrdom as displayed here. • Abstract:
Rad zatvara analiza uloga priče i pripovijedanja. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
