The article looks back at the end of democracy in Germany in 1933 when Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor and implemented a military dictatorship type of government. Historical information is provided about the Reichstag Fire as an opportunity for Hitler to attack the Communists and socialist Left, Nazi activists' control of power in all German federal states, Hitler's propaganda to spread Nazi ideas and bring culture under Nazi direction, and passage of the Enabling Act.
