    • Abstract:
Throughout the centuries Prussia has been the force that has revived a people which seemed, from time to time, irreparably lost. After the terrible beating of the Thirty Years' War, religion and art combined to give new hope to the frustrated German soul. Martin Luther wanted Germany to be the first in spirit but the dawn of the seventeenth century saw a religious and a territorial inexorably bound together. A time of decision is not favorable to political particularism and so Prussia under Bismarck became the champion of German unity. It imposed upon that unity a Prussian hegemony which reached far beyond the limits set by the Congress of Vienna.
