      This article focuses on several socio-political issues as of 1887. The Paper-Bag Trust is the latest combination formed for the purpose of creating or maintaining a monopoly in trade. Heretofore the paper-bag people have been so well shielded by patents that they have not needed any other protection. But, the patents will come to an end by and by, and it has been deemed prudent to get the business into bomb-proof condition before that eventuality takes place. The fall meeting of the American Oriental Society was held at Hopkins Hall, of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland on October 25 and 27. The sessions were well attended, not only by members of the Society, but also by many of the professors and students of the University.
