    • Abstract:
More than 65 American Public Health Association (APHA) Affiliate leaders attended a meeting in June 2004 in Washington D.C. that will pave the way for a more fruitful relationship between APHA and state and local public health associations. Affiliate representatives from around the nation gathered to discuss a variety of issues, ranging from finances to membership to strategic planning. A main highlight of the meeting was beginning work on a formal agreement between APHA and its state and local Affiliates. Also during the meeting, attendees broke up into committees that were charged with building the groundwork for the future of the association's relationship with Affiliates. Each committee will focus on a different priority and report back to the Committee on Affiliates (CoA). The committees will focus on strengthening membership, assessments, dues and fundraising, best Affiliate practices, improving communications, and strengthening the federal governance model. Within each topic area, the committee will focus on the key responsibilities of APHA, CoA and Affiliates in accomplishing each goal. Also during the meeting, the CoA met with members of the Intersectional Council to discuss the relationship between Affiliates and the Sections of APHA.
