- Abstract:
The article presents a brief history of the dermatologic moulage in Europe. Wax moulages represent the main section of a wide range of medical models that can be found in various medical fields. Surgical, orthopedic, pediatric, obstetrical, neurologic, ophthalmologic, and dermatologic models continued with a tradition of wax anatomic modeling that reached a peak of perfection in Italy during the 18th century. A big advantage is that skin is a living organ that can be cast in wax without stressing the patient too much. The procedure can be repeated in various stages of the disease.
