    • Abstract:
People with multiple sclerosis may have an increased risk of cancer, particularly of the respiratory, urinary, and central nervous systems, according to 65 years' worth of data from 7,000 MS patients. Compared to their adult siblings who didn't have MS, those with the disease had a 66% increased risk of respiratory cancer, a 52% higher risk of central nervous system cancer, and a 51% elevated risk of urinary cancer. Additional studies are needed to understand what's behind the connection, but the findings point to a need for greater cancer-risk awareness among MS patients and their doctors so diagnosis and treatment options can improve.
