SILICON VALLEY AND STANFORD UNIVERSITY: MODIFYING THE FORMULA FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A HIGH-TECH REGION.

This article contributes to the discussion of the processes of establishing a high-technology region by showing that during its formative years, Stanford University's relations with local high-tech industry primarily involved satellite branches of established firms rather than indigenous startups. The article states that Stanford's relationships with Lockheed and General Electric were more significant that those with Hewlett-Packard and Varian. The article discusses the history of the Silicon valley in California and Stanford University, highlighting the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), the Stanford Industrial Park, and the Honors Cooperative Program (HCP).
