    • Abstract:
The article discusses scientists' observations of pyrocumulonimbus clouds, or pyroCb, created by severe wildfires in western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest during the summer of 2017. Topics include a giant plume of smoke roughly 12 to 23 kilometers tall produced by the pyroCb and solar radiation heating soot within the smoke, tracking of the smoke plume over the Northern Hemisphere for roughly eight months, and the impact of pyroCb on the earth's ozone layer.
