      This article answers questions about information technology (IT) in the U.S. If moving into management is something that an IT professional want to do, technical leadership skills could support the move. The issue sometimes is making the management aware of what professionals want to do. The power of IT profession is that it gives people the ability to bridge age and gender gaps, the need for technically competent leaders provides a level playing field. Mobility and skill sets play an important role in being considered for the right job. Broadening the skills always helps and adding capabilities in project management, benchmarking analysis and balanced scoreboard techniques are very valuable adjuncts to a solid nix background. Adding Linux expertise broadens technical skill sets as well. The areas of IT profession that will continue to grow at a fast rate include local and wide area networks, database administration, systems administration and business systems analysis. An undergraduate degree in computer science coupled with a few years of work experience makes a solid launching platform for either graduate degree. Getting some work experience first will give insight into which degree makes the most sense to a professional.
