      This study explores the efforts of British Columbia and California to limit Chinese immigration through shared, borrowed and adapted rhetoric, policy initiatives and lobbying between 1850 and 1885. Topics covered include Chinese migration and settlement patterns in British Columbia and California, decision of the politicians of British Columbia to replicate the work of California politicians and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 in the U.S. and Canada's Chinese Immigration Act of 1885.
