- Abstract: Durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX, la poesía española experimentó diferentes enfrentamientos generacionales que, en la mayoría de los casos, evidencian una comprensión bipolar del hecho literario. Uno de los debates más productivos desde el punto de vista de la teoría literaria es el que impulsaron los partidarios de comprender el poema como un acto eminentemente comunicativo frente a quienes defendían su carácter cognoscitivo. Los protagonistas de esta querella pertenecían a la primera y segunda generación de poetas de la posguerra, pero sus posiciones han rebasado los límites de aquella controversia de las décadas de los cincuenta y sesenta. El análisis detallado y la comparación de sus posturas muestra que la polémica conocimiento frente a comunicación apuntaba en realidad a una problemática de mayor alcance: la de comprender la representación literaria en un sentido productivo o reproductivo. De ahí que, lejos de zanjarse en la síntesis valentiana de una poesía que conoce y comunica, el debate continuase presente en décadas posteriores, como la de los años ochenta y noventa, extendiéndose probablemente hasta nuestros días. - Abstract: During the second half of the twentieth century, various generational conflicts emerged amongst poets as a result of a bipolar understanding of literary creations. One of the most significant issues, from the Literary Theory point of view, was the understanding of poems as pure communicative acts versus their interpretation as a source of knowledge. The protagonists of this complaint belonged to the first and second poetical generation of the post-war period, but their positions have exceeded the limits of that controversy in the decades of the fifties and sixties. This dispute revolving around expression versus knowledge can be read as a superficial manifestation of a much more relevant question: the understanding of literary representation as a productive or a reproductive act. Far from Valente's reading of poetry as a synthesis between the two, these bipolar modes of interpretation still stand -decades after the original dispute- and could be unravel in contemporary poetic reflections.
