      GROWING A CHURCH. (English)
    • Abstract:
In 2011, representatives of the Protestant community of Szabó-telep in Budapest's District XVIII asked Imre Makovecz to do the plans of the local church. As usual, the Master passed down the drafts to his apprentices, watching over their work. Sadly, he didn't live to see the plans realize, which were later adapted by Tamás Papp Dósa. True to his Master's vision, the church grows organically out of the soil, while the roof seems to descend from the heavens, almost floating over the low-lying row of windows. The layout focuses the eye onto the place of sermon, located in the center. In a truly shared charity effort, the Church, the Hungarian government, the local and municipal governments and the public all work together to finance the construction. Well-known psychologist Professor Emőke Bagdy has been noted for her exceedingly generous contribution. "All who donate for the cause with an open heart are living proof that we are a mighty fortress of Christianity in Europe, building new churches, caring for each other and preserving the faith that keeps us going," she said.
