- Abstract: This work, which describes a multiple case study, aimed to investigate the social representations of scientific knowledge presented by students of two classes of high school integrated vocational education, both belonging to the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Brazil. The qualitative methodology involved the application of two questionnaires: the first aimed to characterize the socio-cultural groups; the second had three interconnected questions on the object of interest, which explored: descriptive answers, free word association and expression through drawing. The content analysis of the data obtained showed that the subjects have predominantly distorted understandings about scientific activity, since overvalue the trial and the individual work of the scientist, as well as interfering disregard social, cultural, political and economic. The analytical excerpts also reaffirmed the need for the scientific and technological education interact more appropriately with culture and work, recognizing science as a human endeavor.
