- Abstract:
D12, a band of six hip-hop artists that includes performer Eminem, picked Detroit's State Theatre April 30 for an album-release event partly because this is the band's hometown and strongest fan base. But there was another reason. Eminem, or Marshall Mathers III and the artists signed to his New York City-based Shady Records label are attempting to make Detroit a central hub for hip-hop. Two other Detroit artists who have become national stars, Kid Rock and the White Stripes are also playing a direct role in the success of local bands and are leading a resurgence of interest in Detroit's music scene.
