      Onder het hoofdredacteurschap van Gust Balthazar was de Groote reportage uitgegroeid tot een vaste rubriek binnen het socialistische dagblad Vooruit. Op het einde van 1934 publiceerde Vooruit in die reeks een zesdelige reportage Bij de pensjagers uit de streek van Beernem. Onderzoeksjournalist van dienst was het vaste redactielid Joris (Georges) Hamers (1 906-1956)1. De reportage van Hamers werd gevolgd door een bijdrage van de hoofdredacteur in de aanloop naarde Abstimmungskampf in het Saarland begin 1935. Vanuiteen hedendaags perspectief lijken beide onderwerpen qua journalistieke relevantie in schril contrast met elkaar te staan. De actualiteitswaarde van Hamers' reportage werd evenwel op drieste wijze aan - getoond tijdens de publicatieperiode van de reeks2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
