This article presents information on various books. The book "The Nationality Question in Soviet Central Asia," edited by Edward Allworth, focuses on essays on Soviet sources and how it has been successful in bringing modernity into Central Asia. "Children and Their Caretakers," edited by Norman K. Denzin, is a collection of articles on children. Most of the articles also have something to do with schooling, so the book might be useful for supplementary reading in courses enrolling future classroom teachers. The highlight of the book "Ghetto Revolts: The Politics of Violence in American Cities," by Joe R. Feagin and Harlan Hahn, is its comprehensive treatment of literature concerned with the riots of the past decade. The authors have attempted to summarize the major theories and empirical studies dealing with such events. Its major weakness is that it is too ambitious, and topics which deserve greater attention are frequently glossed over. It will be valuable to students who are unfamiliar with this literature.
